Our Librarians

Alyssa Thurston

Alyssa Thurston obtained her J.D. from the UCLA School of Law and her M.L.I.S. from the University of Washington. She is also a member of the California State Bar. Alyssa previously worked at the Pepperdine University School of Law Library, where she was Research and Electronic Services Librarian and later Head of Reference Services.  

Elisabeth McKechnie

Ms. McKechnie graduated from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1988 and practiced primarily insurance defense law for six years. She graduated from San Jose State University School of Library Science with an M.L.I.S. in 1999.

Kristin Brandt

Kristin Brandt is a member of the California bar and has a background as a litigator at Morrison & Foerster LLP, where she also served as head of attorney training and development. She graduated from UCLA School of Law and received her M.L.I.S. from San Jose State University. Previous to her current position, she worked at San Francisco Law Library.

David Holt

Mr. Holt graduated from Santa Clara University School of Law and received his M.L.I.S. from San Jose State University. Previously he has served as a branch librarian at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and as the Emerging Technologies law librarian at Santa Clara University School of Law.

His intellectual interests include LGBT legal issues, internet filtering, and legal bibliography.  

Student Liaison Program

All of the reference librarians are here to assist you, but you will also be assigned a specific librarian who can help you build research skills and assist with research strategies for LRW assignments. Liaison librarians can help you with: 

  • How to use Westlaw/Lexis/Bloomberg Law/HeinOnline/other databases
  • Legal research tips
  • Finding electronic materials
  • Bluebook style and citations
  • Locating sources on various platforms
  • Finding the right study aid
