Law Student Survival Guide

A guide to Mabie Law Library resources and services to help students succeed in law school

Course reserves for 1L courses

The Library provides at least one print copy of each required textbook for all first-year courses and all upper-division bar courses. Course reserves are located in the Library’s Reserves Room (behind the Circulation Desk).

  • To see what has been placed on reserve for your course or when specific items are due, consult the library's catalog. Under Library Search, select the Course Reserves tab, then enter your course name or your professor's last name.
  • Course reserves are available for limited four (4)-hour checkout during Library business hours.
  • Items checked out within 4 hours of the Library's closing time are due at 9 am the next business day.

Course reserves are shared among students and the Library does not recommend relying exclusively on them for textbook access.

Borrowing laptop chargers

The Library lends a limited number of laptop chargers. Ask for laptop chargers at the Circulation Desk.

  • Laptop chargers are available for limited four (4)-hour checkout during Library business hours.
  • Items checked out within 4 hours of the Library's closing time are due at 9 am the next business day.

Lost & found

The Law School Lost & Found is located at the Library Circulation Desk. Water bottles, travel mugs, and other food-related items are stored in the Student Lounge.

Valuable found items are held at the Circulation Desk for a reasonable time. Unclaimed items are then turned over to the U.C. Davis Campus Police Department.

For campus lost and found information, see U.C. Davis Police Department Lost and Found.
