A docket is a chronological record of all events and documents filed in a particular court case. Use a docket to locate basic information about a case, such as the parties involved, the names and contact information of their attorneys, the assigned judge, the case filing date, case status, and more.
Locating a docket can also be a first step for finding full-text case documents. These can include pleadings, motions, briefs, exhibits, declarations, orders, rulings, and more. Note, however, that some dockets merely list case documents but do not provide access, while others may require a paid subscription to access case documents. Some dockets are freely available on the web. This portion of the guide will cover some starting resources in all of these categories.
Also note that some case documents are unavailable online. These include any sealed case documents and some older documents. To retrieve the latter, you will need to visit the court in person.
