Generative AI Tools and Resources for Law Faculty

This workshop brings together King Hall law librarians and faculty to offer practical guidance on incorporating generative AI into your work as law school faculty. Librarians will cover essential technical topics, including prompt engineering basics and available tools for both legal-specific and general-purpose generative AI. Faculty members from the AI Working Group will share their experiences integrating AI into their teaching, scholarship, and classroom discussions, highlighting how they engage students in conversations about AI’s role in contemporary legal practice.

Joe will cover key tools for research and publication, and explore how students and law firms are already using AI in legal analysis and client service. Whether you're new to generative AI or already integrating it into your work, this workshop offers practical insights to help you leverage these tools in legal education and prepare students for the profession’s evolving landscape.

Artificial intelligence is transforming legal services across all practice areas. The key question is not whether these tools will be used, but how to use them responsibly and effectively. This workshop is a forum for in-depth engagement with works-in-progress at the intersection of private law, public policy, and the societal changes engendered by new technologies. Rather than focusing on specific policy proposals, we are interested in determining how our systems of private law and private ordering are affected by, provide solutions for, and influence technological change. What do we mean by technology? We have a broad understanding of technology that extends beyond solely digital innovations. What do we mean by private law? As part of private law, we include property, contracts, torts, equity, as well as intellectual property and commercial law, among others.

This webinar will explore the pros and cons of various proposals submitted to the Federal Rules of Evidence (FRE) Advisory Committee since 2023 to address AI-generated evidence, both acknowledged and unacknowledged (i.e., deepfakes). The esteemed panel consists of the immediate past chair of the FRE Advisory Committee, its longtime reporter, a retired district judge, and well-known academics who have made multiple submissions to the FRE Advisory Committee concerning potential changes to the FRE. Are changes really needed in light of recent developments involving generative AI, or can the current rules still function effectively in this changed world?
