Class Exercises

  1. Find the testimony, on Proquest Congressional, of Stephen Colbert before the Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, Refugees, Border Security, and International Law.
  2. Do a Google search to find the public law number, and US Statutes at Large citation, for the Patriot Act.  Wikipedia likely has this information.
  3. Using that citation, find the compiled legislative history on Proquest Congressional.
  4. I need to find CRS reports on US policy on asylum seekers.  Find an appropriate document for this.
  5. Does a slip law, or session law, ever change?  What about a code section?  How would I go about reconstructing how a law appears in a previous year?  
  6. Using Congress.gov find H.R. 5430 dealing with the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement Implementation Act.  Is there a committee report available?
  7. I'm interested in SB 201 dealing with surgery on intersex infants.  Look up this bill on Cal Leginfo.  What substantive materials are available?
  8. If I wanted transcripts from hearings dealing with SB 201 where would I need to go?  
  9. I need substantive documents from SB 270 passed in 2014 dealing with single-use plastic bags.  What's available?
  10. Find me California's first legislative session laws on HeinOnline.  Which city in California was this legislative session convened?
